Intro
Limestone Reading Lab provides one-to-one reading help for children and teens in Kingston, Ontario.
This is focused, practical reading instruction for students who are struggling with decoding, fluency, or comprehension, or who have fallen behind and are losing confidence with reading.
Who this is for?
Limestone Reading Lab works with students who:
- struggle to read accurately or fluently
- guess at words instead of decoding them
- avoid reading because it feels slow or exhausting
- understand spoken language well but struggle with written text
- are bright, but not making expected progress at school
Many families come here after being told to “wait and see,” or after discovering that school-day programs are full or unavailable.
After-school, evenings, and weekends
A major barrier for many families is scheduling.
Most reading programs in Kingston run during the school day, requiring early pickups and missed classes.
Limestone Reading Lab offers:
- after-school lessons
- evening availability
- weekend lessons
This makes it possible to get reading help without pulling students out of school or rearranging the entire family schedule.
How reading help works here
Instruction is always one-to-one and adjusted to the student in front of me.
Sessions focus on the foundations of reading, including:
- decoding and word reading
- fluency and accuracy
- reading stamina and confidence
- understanding how written language works
This is not a packaged program and not a diagnostic service. Progress comes from careful observation, steady practice, and teaching that responds to what the student actually does while reading.
Location
Limestone Reading Lab is based in Kingston, Ontario, and works with families in Kingston and the surrounding area.

The lab will begin accepting students in Fall 2026.

About the instructor
Limestone Reading Lab is run by Chris, a Kingston native and Queen’s University graduate. After spending several years teaching English and reading skills in Japan, including extensive work with phonics and early reading development, he is returning to Kingston in 2026 to open the lab full time. His work focuses on helping students make clear connections in reading, especially enjoy the moments when things finally click for his students.
