Intro
Limestone Reading provides one-to-one reading help and personalized tutoring for children and teens in Kingston, Ontario.
If you have been searching for an experienced reading tutor near me to help your child catch up, you are in the right place. This is focused, practical reading instruction for students who are struggling with decoding, fluency, or comprehension, or who have fallen behind and are losing confidence with reading.
Who this is for?
Limestone Reading works with students who:
- struggle to read accurately or fluently
- guess at words instead of decoding them
- avoid reading because it feels slow or exhausting
- understand spoken language well but struggle with written text
- are bright, but not making expected progress at school
Many families come here after being told to “wait and see,” or after discovering that school-day programs are full or unavailable. You don’t have to navigate this alone.
Why In-Person Tutoring Matters
Many of our daily lives are filled with screens. I believe the best reading progress happens face-to-face. Rapport is everything. At Limestone Reading, we use traditional, time-tested methods—focused on real books, paper, and pencils—blended with modern understanding of childhood development. Lessons will also include carefully chosen game play to support students’ understanding.
By keeping lessons strictly in-person, the student and reading teacher build a genuine connection, and reduce digital fatigue. During that session, the focus is entirely on the child and their progress.
Flexible Scheduling: School Pull-Outs, Evenings, & Weekends
Every family functions differently, which is why I offer flexible hours designed around your real life. Whether you are looking for daytime school pull-out lessons or out-of-school support, we can find a time that works.
Limestone Reading offers:
- after-school lessons
- evening availability
- weekend lessons
How reading help works here
Instruction is always one-to-one and adjusted to the student in front of me.
Sessions focus on the foundations of reading, including:
- decoding and word reading
- fluency and accuracy
- reading stamina and confidence
- understanding how written language works
- supporting students who show signs of dyslexia
This is not a packaged program and not a diagnostic service. Progress comes from careful observation, steady practice, and teaching that responds to what the student actually does while reading.

About the instructor
Limestone Reading is run by Chris, a Kingston native and Queen’s University graduate. After spending several years teaching English and reading skills in Japan, including extensive work with phonics and early reading development, he is returning to Kingston in 2026 to open the Limestone Reading literacy classroom. His work focuses on helping students make clear connections in reading, and he especially enjoys the moments when things finally click for his students.
